Molokini Island explained
TOP 10 DIVE TOUR IN THE WORLD!! An underwater Volcanic Reef & National Marine Reserve with viability of 200ft., is toured simultaneously by nearly 40 different snorkel, snuba and scuba vessels.

HERES HOW THE ADVENTURE GOES;

For Snorkelers; If you take the snorkel yachts, mainly larger power or sailing catamarans, from Maalaea Harbor they fit between 36 to150 guests per boat. There are 30+ boats and they all go at the same time for a nice 5to6 hr. social experience. 1 or more hours to get there & 1 or more hours back.  They mostly snorkel the front center of the Islet due to currents and deeper water on the edges and backside where the Dive tours go.

  It is about an hour or more for the Maalaea/Lahaina boats to get to Molokini & same amount back. Each boat will line the entire center of Molokini, and you snorkel around the circle of your boat, not to go into the next boats circle.  Molokini's reef extends from edge to edge and you will share 1/30th of the reef with the other great yachts. Under these yachts are rock, good hiding places for marine life.  Most vessels will go to Turtle town.  The boats will have some of these options: fresh water showers, glass bottom viewing (when stopped),water slides,snuba, scuba,videotaping your tour live, breakfasts, deli or charcoal grill lunch, sailing, fishing lines during travel,shade, multi level vessels, an on board, marine specimen, live show and alcohol type drinks for the ride back..

    If you go to Molokini from Kihei, it is about 12 minutes to get there and you go before or after the larger boats from Maalaea leave. These vessels take only 14 to 20 people.  Most will snorkel 3 locations on Molokini;  the entire center of the island, from edge to edge,  snorkeling reefs end, drifting across the under-water volcanic reef precipice, and sometimes the 150 ft. straight down, back side, called the Backwall. Turtle town is also included for in the water snorkels.

  Some of these,power, safe and raft type vessels will provide a free diver guide,showing you where creatures hide, including beverages, breakfast and, or lunch.

They do not have all the, on the boat, amenities like the Maalaea boats.They do provide perhaps more in the water and multiple snorkel places of Molokini.  All vessel have food & beverages.

Many of the Kihei and Maalaea boats go to TURTLE TOWN and only a few to a sea cave and a Dolphin habitat location(25%chance of seeing them). All you need for any chosen boat tour is a towel and sun gear.

All the different Snorkel Yachts & CERTIFIED SCUBA TOURS are discussed on the SCUBA Brochure. (just click)

Afternoon Molokini Tours have about a 50% chance of going due to higher trade winds. Most boats in the afternoon are 1/2 the price of the morning tours. If they go to Molokini, there will be no TURTLE TOWN. The alternate location is usually a nice reef called Coral gardens or Olowalu.  These are not as far away as Molokini and they usually are not affected by the wind.
